First Trailer Arrives for Jordan Firstman’s Cannes Hit “Club Kid”

Jordan Firstman’s “Club Kid” is finally making its way beyond Cannes, where the actor’s feature directorial debut quickly became one of the titles generating the most conversation outside the festival’s main competition.

Premiered in Un Certain Regard earlier this year, the film will now receive a theatrical release from A24 on November 6, following screenings at TIFF and the New York Film Festival. The first trailer offers an early glimpse into Firstman’s portrait of a New York nightlife figure whose carefully maintained existence is abruptly disrupted by an unexpected arrival.

The story follows a hard-partying club promoter whose nocturnal routine is thrown off course when the 10-year-old son he never knew he had suddenly enters his life.

Firstman has already built a distinctive presence across projects including “Rotting in the Sun” and “I Love LA”, making his move into feature filmmaking a particularly interesting turn. Yet “Club Kid” suggests that the transition behind the camera was less of a detour than a direction that had been waiting to emerge.

Its selection for Un Certain Regard also placed the film within a section known for giving established performers space to explore filmmaking from the other side of the camera. In Firstman’s case, the result appears unusually assured, with the film finding its own rhythm between nightlife excess, unexpected responsibility and the disorder that arrives when the two collide.

“Club Kid” opens in theatres on November 6.
