Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts is preparing to open its first property in the Maldives with the launch of Bvlgari Resort Ranfushi, a private island retreat located in the remote Raa Atoll. Originally announced in 2022, the project marks another step in the brand’s carefully paced expansion into luxury hospitality, extending its presence beyond major global cities and into more secluded resort destinations.
Named after the Dhivehi expression for “Little Gold Island,” Ranfushi subtly references the Roman house’s heritage while remaining deeply connected to its surroundings. Reached by a 45-minute seaplane journey from Malé International Airport, the island is framed by dense tropical vegetation, shallow turquoise lagoons, and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.
Unlike Bvlgari’s metropolitan hotels, often integrated into dense urban environments, the Maldives resort embraces a more intimate scale. The property includes just 54 accommodations, composed of beachfront villas, overwater residences, and an exclusive Bvlgari Villa positioned on its own private island. Rather than emphasizing spectacle or excess, the resort appears designed around privacy, calmness, and spatial restraint.
The architecture was developed by ACPV Architects Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, longtime collaborators of the hospitality group. Their approach balances contemporary minimalism with a strong sensitivity to the surrounding landscape. Low-profile structures blend into the island environment through the use of natural materials, open layouts, and unobtrusive architectural lines intended to preserve views and reduce visual impact on the terrain.
Environmental considerations also play a central role in the project. The design prioritizes sustainability and ecological preservation, reflecting a broader industry shift toward more responsible resort development in fragile island ecosystems. Architecture, vegetation, and water are treated as interconnected elements rather than separate layers of the experience.
Inside the villas, the interiors reinterpret Bvlgari’s refined Italian aesthetic through a softer, more regionally grounded lens. Rather than imposing a rigid visual identity, the spaces integrate local textures, organic materials, and relaxed spatial rhythms that respond to the atmosphere of the Maldives. The result feels understated yet carefully composed, a balance between contemporary Italian design and the quiet sensuality of island living.
With Ranfushi, Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts continues to position itself within a more curated vision of luxury hospitality: one shaped less by scale and extravagance than by craftsmanship, architecture, and a strong sense of place.
